iPhone Duo repair menu: $999 inner screen, $1,499 'other damage'
A day before Friday's 5 a.m. PT iPhone Duo preorders, Apple's out-of-warranty repair estimates put an inner-display fix at $999 and 'other damage' at $1,499, about three-quarters of the $1,999 base price. AppleCare+ cuts those to $99 each.

What happened
Apple published U.S. out-of-warranty repair estimates for the foldable iPhone Duo, The Verge, 9to5Mac and AppleInsider reported on Oct. 14. The highest listed fee is $1,499 for "other damage." An inner-display repair is $999. Preorders open Friday, Oct. 16, at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time; devices go on sale Oct. 23.
Why it matters
On a phone that starts at $1,999, one "other damage" bill is about 75% of the base price, so the insurance choice is part of the preorder math, not an afterthought. Get Ready is still open on apple.com for locking color, storage, carrier and payment before Friday's rush.
More context
Fee ladder without AppleCare+: Cover layer $49; back glass $199; battery or rear camera $229 each; outer display $379; outer display plus back glass $509; inner display $999; other damage $1,499. Apple says these are estimates and that authorized providers can set their own prices.
With AppleCare+: Battery service below 80% capacity is $0. Cover layer is $19, back glass or outer display $29, inner display or other accidental damage $99, and theft or loss $149. AppleCare+ for Duo is listed at $19.99 a month, $199.99 a year, or $399 upfront, outlets report.
What would change the story: Apple revising the published fee table, a carrier or third-party plan that undercuts AppleCare+ on accidental damage, or early reviews that show the fold crease or hinge failing more often than expected.
