About US Brief
Balanced news in 60 seconds. Short, plain briefs on US news, politics, technology, world, finance and entertainment. Free, with no paywall.
What you get
- Short stories. Each one says what happened, why it matters and what’s next, and most take under a minute to read. Your 5-Minute Brief on the homepage picks a handful of top stories from each subject.
- Today’s Both Sides. Each day we feature one contested story and show how right-leaning and left-leaning outlets are covering it.
- Photos with credits. Stories use credited, freely licensed photos. When no suitable photo exists, we use a clearly labeled AI illustration.
- An archive you can search. Every story is dated and listed in the archive.
Sources from across the spectrum
We build stories from outlets on different sides, such as Fox News and the New York Post alongside AP, CNN and The Washington Post. We list every source on every story so you can check them yourself. A story is marked “Sources across the spectrum” only when its sources actually include both sides.
How we work
Stories are drafted with AI help from reputable reporting and primary documents. A person reviews and approves every story before it’s published. Stories are credited to the US Brief desk, and each shows when it was last updated.
